For my first collection, I had already gone the distance and pushed the boundaries of digital design, and I knew the second time around, I wanted to take it one step further by turning my digital dreams into reality. So when my professor approached me and asked if I’d like to participate in an independent study, it was an immediate yes.
As is with all of my designs, I was inspired by theatre history and mid-century motifs, but I still wanted this collection to be an obvious difference from my first. To accomplish this, I focused on a more limited color palette, challenging myself to concentrate more on contrasting lines throughout each silhouette.
My biggest influences were 60's mod fashion, mid-century modern architecture, Nancy Sinatra, Sharon Tate, and specifically the 2007 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Company. Below, see pages from the book I created and had printed, outlining my process and showing more of my inspiration.
