Product Development

Course Description: This course examines apparel line development from concept to consumer. A focus on seasonal collections for product categories and merchandising classifications.

For this class, we were tasked with teaming up with a classmate to create a collection beginning with designing 5 full looks, and then selecting materials (including textiles and findings), conceptualizing our looks, utilizing a PLM system, creating branding, graphic designing hangtags, and costing. Finally, we created a distribution and sales calendar to simulate a real clothing brand rollout.

This course was by far on of my favorites, because it challenged me to work with a different designer and learn to find a middle ground despite our differences as designers. It was gratifying to get to see a product line through from start to finish, since in most positions, you only get to work on one part of the process.
